Donald A. Blanchard was born at Lone Rock, Iowa, October 28, 19ll, to Jesse Milton and Maude (Whitehill) Blanchard. He was the middle of nine children. He received his education and graduated from the Lone Rock Public School. He later graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. Don married Mabel Howe on December 11, 1937, at the Methodist Parsonage in Paullina, Iowa. Don played semi-professional and professional baseball from 1935-1954. He served as principal, coach, and classroom teacher for ten years at Plymouth High School, Plymouth, Iowa, and four years at Lone Rock High School, Lone Rock, Iowa, and fifteen years at Sentral High School, Fenton, Iowa. Early in life his favorite past time was being involved in sports of all kinds. In later years he enjoyed following sports, playing cribbage, traveling, and, above all, spending time with his family. Don was a member of the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church for seventy-six years, where he served as an elder and a trustee. Donald A. r husband, Wendell, of Fenton, Iowa, Craig Blanchard and his wife, Linda, of Antigo, Wisconsin, and Susan Luedtke, and her husband, Leslie, of Alexandria, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gordon of Sioux City, Iowa, Eugene and his wife, Elsie, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jesse and his wife, Nancy, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and one sister, Doris (Mrs. Alfred) Schultz of Lone Rock, Iowa. He will also be missed by his special caregiver, Bethene Hovey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel on April 29, 1993; three sisters, Rita (Mrs. John) Flynn, Lucille (Mrs. John) Sones, and Ersel (Mrs. Chester) Alme; and one brother, Harlan.
