Gordon M. Davidson

Gordon Manford Davidson was born to Ralph and Minnie (Chestnut) Davidson on May 19, 1918, in LuVerne, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from LuVerne High School in 1936. He farmed with his father until 1942, until he went into the army. Gordon was assigned to the 2nd Army Division and sent to North Africa. He was sent to England in 1942, and in 1943, was assigned to the European Theatre until the war was over. He returned to Iowa and resumed farming. He married Hallie Asa in 1948, and farmed south of Sexton. They had one daughter, LuAnn. Hallie died in 1966. Gordon married Evelyn Froehlich in St. Benedict, Iowa, on September 7, 1968, and farmed south of Sexton until 1980, when they moved to Algona. He was secretary of the Creamery at Wesley, was an usher at St. Cecelia Catholic Church for 20 years and worked for the Algona Newspaper for 25 years until November, 2005. Gordon enjoyed bowling, fishing and loved sports. He was a big Hawkeye Fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play in their sporting events. He is also survived by his sister Marvel Eggleston of Graettinger, Iowa and brother Vervon and wife Gloria Davidson of Iowa Falls, Iowa. Gordon was preceded in death by his first wife Hallie, parents Ralph and Minnie Davidson, son-in-law Phil Elbert and step-son Oscar Froehlich.
