George Fraley
George W. Fraley Jr., age 85 of Winchester, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. A native of Franklin County, he was born in the Owl Hollow Community on April 4, 1931 to the late George and Oshia Pearl Tipps Fraley Sr. George attended Central High School in Franklin County, where he played football. His first paying job was mixing mud for the Broadview School building. After high school, he attended MTSU, again playing football while pursuing his B.S. degree. George served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He began his professional career teaching for one year at West Junior High in Tullahoma. George later worked as an Insurance Adjustor for the General Adjustment Bureau, and as a Metallurgical Engineer at Arnold Engineering Development Center. During his employment at AEDC, he served for thirteen years as a Franklin County Commissioner, served as Franklin County Executive for one term (four years), and also was a farmer. ge is preceded in death by infant siblings, Hazel and Herman Fraley; and sister, Stella Ruch, Ernestine Mason, and Karene Wynne. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Newman Fraley; son, Beri Fraley; daughter, Beth Fraley Eavey; grandchildren, Anne Marie Fraley Rainey, Laura Beth Fraley Anderson, Rebecca Lee Fraley, Callie Elizabeth Eavey, Lindsey Leigh Eavey, and Megan Elizabeth Grenier; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-9 PM Friday, August 26, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home and 12-2 PM Saturday, August 27, at Winchester Church of Christ. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Winchester Church of Christ with Brother Joe Keith Pedigo officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Fraley Foundation Scholarship Fund, 1350 Bible Crossing Road, Winchester, TN 37398.
