Olivia Margaret Elbert was born November 5, 1907, at Dickens, Iowa, to Christian and Anna (Thilges) Gales. Olivia was schooled at St. Joseph, Iowa and was married to Walter Elbert on November 22, 1935, at St. Joseph. Olivia worked as a homemaker and later candled eggs at Dreesman Produce. For 17 years Olivia worked at St. Ann's Hospital in Algona and retired in 1979. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, card playing and traveled to Europe three times. Olivia was a member of the St. Cecelia Catholic Church, the CDA, New Dimension and the Senior Center. She became a resident of Good Samaritan Communities in May, 2005. She died on Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona at the age of 99.
Survivors include her son, John Elbert of Fenton, five grandchildren, David, Paul, Sarah, Andrew and Sister Angela, and six great grandchildren, David, Paul, Angela, Amara, Nathan and Jeremy. Also surviving is her brother Al Gales of Ft. Dodge, Iowa and sisters, Sister Marguerite Gales of Techny, IL. and Sister Engratia Gales of Techny, IL.
