Leo William Kirschbaum was born June 24, 1925, in Sexton, Iowa, the son of August and Bertha (Eisenmann) Kirschbaum. He attended country school and St. Cecelia's Academy in Algona, graduating in 1941. Leo served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 on the USS Improve, a mine sweeper in the Pacific Ocean. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Sexton.
On October 14, 1947, Leo was united in marriage to Mary Ann Mergen at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. Leo ran Kirschbaum Garage in Sexton, repairing cars, tractors and lawn mowers until he retired in 1985. They lived in Sexton for 62 years, moving to Algona in August of 2011.
Leo enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, dancing, traveling and working in his shop. He was a member of St. Cecelia Parish and a faithful attendee of the Adoration Chapel since it began.
Leo died Sunday, October 8, 2017, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. He was 92.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathryn Bode and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Kirschbaum.
