Harold Alfred Penning was born September 26, 1928, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, the son of John and Effie (Hugo) Penning. He grew up in the area and attended country school. After his schooling he began working at Snap-On Tools.
On April 14, 1949, Harold was united in marriage to Betty Seifert in Britt, Iowa. They moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where Harold worked as a firefighter. He then went to work for General Dynamics in Plattsburg, New York; and Fremont, Nebraska, before they moved back to Corwith. Harold went back to work at Snap-On Tools and the couple moved to Algona and after retirement they moved to St. Benedict.
Harold enjoyed fixing anything that was broken, hunting, being outdoors in his yard and garden and working puzzle books.
Harold died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa. He was 78.
He is survived by his children, Gloria Peterson of Algona, Iowa; Gary Penning of Greenwood, Wisconsin; Joanne and husband Carl Nord of Britt, Iowa; Stephen Penning of St. Benedict, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; brothers, Eldon "Sonny", Joe and Ray Penning and sisters, Beverly Bedford and Arseline "Ene" Haack.
