Roger McCay, 74, of Diagonal, died at his home on Sunday, October 8, 2017. Celebration of Life Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Pastor Chuck Spindler will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston. Visitation, with family receiving friends, will be from 11-1:00 p.m. Saturday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Roger Earl McCay, son of Bonita May (Flint) McCay and Elmer Earl McCay, was born on October 24, 1942 in Bethany, Mo. He graduated from Creston High School in 1961 and then studied at Iowa State University, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry. Roger then furthered his education at Ohio State University where he received his Master's Degree in Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology.
Roger was united in marriage to Susan Hoyt on October 9, 1963, in Ames, Ia. Together they were blessed with three children, Kevin, Kelly and Kerry.

variety of places in the Forest Services and Economics Departments. He began in Columbus, O.H. and went to, Dalton, Pa., the Waukesha, Wis. area, Fairfax, Va., Mukwonago, Wis. and then retired and moved to Diagonal. Roger and Susan divorced. In retirement, Roger built his retirement home and raised and trained yellow labs, through his business Mac's Friendly Labs.
Roger was a former member, judge and officer of the North American Hunting and Retrieving Association. He also was a baseball umpire for both high school and semi-pro games. He enjoyed cross country skiing, boating, coaching, and annually hosting a pheasant hunting group.
Roger is survived by his son, Kevin (wife Maggie) McCay of Carlisle, Ia.; daughter, Kelly (husband Scott) Purdy of Mukwonago, Wis; former wife, Susan McCay of Mukwonago, Wisc.; son-in-law, Marty Sharer of Franklin, Ky.; grandchildren, Max McCay, Nic McCay, Brandon Purdy and Bryor Purdy; and two brothers, David (wife Sue) McCay or Broken Arrow, Okla. and Keith (wife Brenda) McCay of Waukee, Ia. and numerous other relatives. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Kerry Sharer.
