Carl Benton Payne, age 88 of Tullahoma, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems. He was born in Grundy County on September 28, 1929 to the late Joseph and Eva Parks Payne. Carl served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a Wildlife Officer by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency for over 26 years, and named as Wildlife Officer of the Year during his tenure. Carl served as the County Executive (Mayor) of Moore County for twelve years. In his spare time, he loved quail hunting, working pointer birddogs, and gardening. In addition to his parents, Carl is preceded in death by his sisters, Blanche Payne, Annie Bell Bean, and Edith Harles; and brothers, Joe "Bud" Payne, David Payne, and Robert Payne. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bobbie Payne; daughter, Tammy (Chris) Roberts; granddaughter, Haley Roberts; and sister, Patsy Woodall. Visitation will be from 1:00-4:30 PM Friday, October 20, 2017 at Jennings-Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Lynchburg.
