Laurena H. Voigt

Interment: East Lawn Cemetery ~ Algona, Iowa Laurena Hulda Theresa Voigt was born December 30, 1917 in rural Lone Rock, daughter of Emil John and Dora (Radig) Laabs. She was baptized and confirmed in Lotts Creek Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended Lotts Creek Parochial school. She graduated from Algona High School in 1935. Laurena was united in marriage to Paul Edgar Voigt on August 28, 1938 at Lotts Creek. They farmed north of Fenton moving into Fenton in 1977 and in 1991, they moved into Algona. Laurena and Paul loved to travel and they spent their winters in Florida. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, and bowling. She taught Sunday school for many years and formerly was a member of the Ladies-Aid. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Laurena H. Voigt died Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Good Samaritan Communities Algona at the age of 92. She had been a resident there since December, 2005. She is survived by three daughters, Joyce Robbins of Manitowoc, WI, Judy Culbertson and her husband Joe of Swea City, and Roxana Bowman and her husband John of Ocala, Florida; 7 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Ann Laabs of Lone Rock, Blanche Hutchinson of Lamberton, MN, Vivian Widdel of Rochester, MN, Eunice Voigt of Fairmont, MN, and Bessie Voigt of Emmetsburg; a brother-in-law, Roy Bierle of Bancroft; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul on December 30, 2008; three sisters, Margaret Hantelman, Mildred Lohse, and Wilma Bierle; and one brother, Raymond Laabs.
