Ernest P. Solomon
Ernest (Ernie) P. Solomon, 99, of Blandon, Pa, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in the Keystone Villa of Fleetwood. Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on June 1, 1918, Ernest was a son of the late Bahshara and Rapha Solomon. Married for 67-years, Ernest was the loving husband of Eleanor (Moyer) Solomon. Ernest was a member of St. John's Gernant's UCC Church in Leesport and a former member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Kutztown. Ernest was a contractor and developer, known for his local projects such as Willow Creek Manor (now Dollar Tree) and Milkins Funeral Home. He was an incredibly talented woodworker. Ernest was a Webelo leader for Scout Troup 153 in Kutztown. He liked gardening and birdwatching. An avid sports fan, Ernest enjoyed rooting for the Phillies and watching football. Most of all Ernest enjoyed his family and friends; hosting Sunday outings, birthday parties, and swimming in his pool. Ernest served his country in WWII, serving 4-years in the Army Air Force. The funeral service will take place on Monday, October 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Milkins Giles Funeral Home, 4914 Kutztown Rd., Temple, PA 19560. Reverend Frances Merkel will officiate. A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home and again prior to service on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service in St. John's Gernants Cemetery, Leesport, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Gernant's UCC Church Building Fund at 12 Gernants Church Rd, Leesport, PA 19533 or to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
