Mardelle Huss, 101, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Creston and Afton, died Monday, October 30th, at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln, Nebraska. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday November 8, 2017 at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Jim Morris and Ed Ritter will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Open visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to service time Wednesday November 8, 2017at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials may be made to East Union Scholarship Fund. Mardelle Dorothy Morcomb was born August 12, 1916 in Winona County, Minn. to James and Gertrude Morcomb. After her mother's death, as a young child she went to live with relatives, eventually living with family on a farm near Orient. Mardelle graduated from Orient High School and went on to study education at Drake College for three years, which she truly enjoyed. Mardelle taught country school for many years and inspired lots of students with her caring attitude. She loved learning new things and was a fantastic seamstress, and cook. ng horses she broke herself. Mardelle was a member of Dodge Center Methodist Church and later Jerusalem Methodist Church. She also attended First United Methodist church in Creston after moving to town. Mardelle was a member of Lincoln Neighbors Club.
Mardelle was united in marriage to Bruce Huss on May 18th, 1941. They settled north of Afton, where they would live for 50 years. Bruce and Mardelle were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Holly, in 1946 and she grew into a lovely young lady. Holly passed away in 1967. Mardelle and Bruce adopted sisters, Leta and Mary, in 1970. Mardelle loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Mardelle was a special lady and will be truly missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Leta (Gregg) Phillips of Colville, Washington, and Mary (Shawn) Lange of Lincoln, Nebraska. Five granddaughters: Shannon Griesinger of Colville, Washington, Melisa Griesinger of Austin, Texas, and Morgan Griesinger of Colville, Washington, Micaela Huss of Lincoln, Nebraska and Kiera Huss of Lincoln, Ne., Great-Granddaughter, Sophia Christensen of Colville, Wa. and Greenfield, Ia, 3 step-grandchildren Rachel Lange of Redding, Calif., Emily Lange of Kansas City, Mo. and Nathan Lange of Lincoln, Ne., and cousin Earl Samuelson of California. Mardelle was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bruce, brother, Everette Morcomb and daughter, Holly, and brother-in-law Max Huss.
