Jerome F. "Jerry" Beckman 79 of Dubuque passed away on Wednesday, November 08, 2017 at Luther Manor-Grand Meadows. Memorial Mass will be 12:00 pm (Noon), Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Christ the King Chapel on the campus of Loras College conducted by Rev. Bill Joenson.
Jerry was born April 20, 1938 in Burlington, Iowa and was the son of Linus T. and Frances E. (McMahon) Beckman. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. Jerry then earned two graduate degrees and a Ph.D. from Loras College, the University of Iowa, and USIU in San Diego, California. His doctoral work was in the field of Human Behavior and he studied under notable psychologists Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, and Victor Fankl. He served as an Officer in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii aboard the USS Takelma (ATF 113). On August 29, 1964 he married Ann Skelley at Sacred Heart Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Jerry was a clinical psychologist at Medical Associates in Dubuque for 40 years. . He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and the American Psychological Association. Jerry is grateful to all the wonderful people who trusted him to share their stories with him.
Survivors include his wife, Ann; two sons, Thomas (Julia Oxler) Beckman of Rochester, Minnesota, and John (Marcela Valdes) Beckman of Annapolis, Maryland; grandchildren, Katy Emerson, Eva Beckman, John Beckman, Ellen Beckman, and Katherine Beckman; siblings, Steven (Ellie) Beckman of Sacramento, California, Thomas (Margaret) Beckman of Sarasota, Florida, and Margaret (Joseph) Zucco of Omaha, Nebraska.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to Loras College, Clarke University or Hospice of Dubuque in Jerry's memory.
