MADISON - Vincie A. Di Salvo, age 85, died on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from complications as a result from a fall at Capitol Lakes, then later transferred to the Agrace Hospice facility.
She was born on February 12, 1932 in Madison, WI to Cosmo and Mary (Maisano) Di Salvo. Vincenza "Vincie" was named after her father's mother. She born and raised in "The Bush" and lived in Madison her entire life. Vincie loved the noise of Regent Street traffic, particularly the WWII convoys. She graduated from Madison Central High School in 1950.
Vincie was the "la capa" of the legendary "Shrimp Cleaning Crew" at Di Salvo's Spaghetti and Sea Food restaurant in the '40s & 50s. She worked for Wisconsin Bell Telephone, the City of Madison as a meter maid, then as an administrative assistant at the Madison Police Department. She ended her career at the information desk at Meriter Hospital, where she was known to give flowers, from the front desk, to children visiting their mother who just gave birth.
Vincie was President of the Wisconsin Englebert Humperdink Fan Club for over a decade and bought every album, picture, key chain...EVERYTHING. However, her f...[more]
her first love was Eddie Arnold followed by Frank ("Oooh Frankie") Sinatra, then she "found" Engie.
She never played at the Sunday night card game at her parent's home, but she loved being "skunked" in Cribbage by her Dad. She was sassy, strong-willed, loving, a hoot, took no crap from anybody and was fond of saying "who gives a rat's ass."
Vincie is survived by her brother Benedict (Diane) Di Salvo; a son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren; and Scout & Willy Bear who lit up her eyes and lifted her spirits. She is preceded in death by her father, Cosmo; her mother, Mary; soul-mate, Ralph; and beloved dog, Sammy.
