ichard and Katie Raessler and later with Bill and Regina Eggemeyer so she could attend St. Joseph's Catholic School in Rowena. Ruby married Joseph Matschek on January 20, 1936. They farmed in Rowena for four years and then moved to VanCourt, Texas where they farmed until 1980 when they retired. During the 1950's drought, they worked other jobs to make ends meet, including working at South Oakes Drive-in.
Ruby was actively involved in farming including chopping, picking cotton, shocking feed, sacking milo, milking cows, and hauling cotton trailers. They were one of the first member families of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Helen's Altar Society. After retirement, Joe and Ruby enjoyed taking the Magic Travel bus trips across the United States. They traveled to every state except four. They also enjoyed Polka dances and fishing trips with friends. They greatly enjoyed watching Wall sporting events, especially watching their sons and grandkids. Joe and Ruby celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1986. Joe passed away on November 5, 1987. On May 2, 1992 Ruby married Werner Niehues at St. Ambrose church in Wall. They were married 20 years. They enjoyed family reunions, church functions, gardening, and the outdoors. They were members of Holy Angels Catholic Church. Werner passed away in 2011. Ruby Moved to Rio Concho Terrace in 2012, where she lived about three years. From there, she moved to Senior Care of San Angelo, where she lived until she passed.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, her husband's Joe and Werner, and her sisters Mildred Glass and Alma Wilde. She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Matschek and Ralph Matschek and wife Ruby. Also seven grandchildren: Mark Matschek and wife Lisa, Laura Whisenhunt and husband Mike, Walter Matschek and wife Robin, Greg Matschek and wife Janice, Chris Matschek and wife Tiffany, Grant Matschek and wife Tammy and Robin Butler. There are numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by stepchildren: Denis Niehues and wife Linda, Kenneth Niehues and wife Carol, Joan Campbell and husband Forrest, Doris Siebold and husband Lynn, Cindy Stout and husband Ralph.
Pallbearers are her grandsons: Mark, Walter, Greg, Chris, Grant Matschek, and Mike Whisenhunt. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, November 22nd at 6:30 pm at Johnson's Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be on Saturday, November
25th at 10:00 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall. Burial will follow at St. Ambrose Cemetery. We would like to thank all those who took care of mom at Rio Concho Terrace, Senior Care, and Shannon Hospital's 6th floor nurses. Ruby's greatest passions were her family, her friends, and her church. She will always be remembered for her chocolate and pecan pies, and lunch at 4 pm.
