Lona F. Smith

Lona F. Smith, 71, of Waterloo, died at her home on November 23, 2017. She was born on October 28, 1946 in Waterloo; the daughter of Roland and Lillian Eliott Hathaway. Lona graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1964; she then graduated from Gates Business College in 1967.  She married Kenneth J. Leahy on April 20, 1968 and they later divorced; she married Aubrey C. Smith on December 13, 1989; he preceded her in death on September 14, 2014. She was employed at Pinkerton Building Supplies; Lona then worked as a teacher's associate for Waterloo Community Schools; she later worked for Omega Cabinets until her retirement. Lona is survived by a daughter, Lori Leahy of Big Lake, MN; two sons, Mike (Grace) Leahy of Waterloo and Greg Leahy of Waterloo; a sister, Rolene (Craig) Wehr of Cedar Falls; a sister-in-law, Judy Barnett of Norman, OK; and a brother-in-law, Bill (Barbara) Rector of Moore, OK.
