Raymond J. "Ray" Schumacher, 87 of Zwingle, Iowa passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church, Otter Creek with Fr. Donald Hertges officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Ray was born on January 21, 1930 in Bellevue, Iowa the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Scott) Schumacher. He graduated from Maquoketa High School, and served in the United States Marine Corps from October 11, 1951 to June 26, 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He married Joann Lucille Beckley on September 26, 1956 at Holy Rosary in La Motte. Ray worked as a farmer and farmed on the same farm since 1942 raising registered Guernseys until 1993. He then worked at Woodform in Maquoketa until retiring in 2001. Ray enjoyed fishing, playing euchre and woodworking, many were blessed with gifts of his beautiful creations. vived by his loving wife Joann, of Zwingle; children, Mary Ann (Marlon) Cooper, of Garrison, Iowa, Karen (Adam) Miller, of Maquoketa, Iowa, David (Angel) Schumacher, of Monmouth, Iowa, and Christy (Mike) Lubben, of Wheaton, IL. 24 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
