James Stanton

James D. Stanton Sr., 94, of rural Keokuk, died at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at Keokuk Area Hospital. Mr. Stanton was born February 3, 1911 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of James Daniels and Margaret Belle Rider Stanton III. He married Dorothy Swenson on September 2, 1933 in Keokuk, Iowa. She preceded him in death in February, 1995. He was a lifelong resident of the Keokuk are and worked for 21 years as a hydroswitch operator at Union Electric, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge in Keokuk. He loved growing flowers and fishing. He is survived by a son, James D. Stanton Jr. and his wife, Caroline, of Keokuk; two daughters: Alicia Day and her husband, Larry, of Marietta, Georgia; Jonna J. Kimmell and her husband, Robert, of Keokuk; brother, Francis "Bus" Stanton of Walnut Grove, California; thirteen grandchildren, Leesa Biddy and husband, Tim, Mark Day, Kim Kraus and husband, Mike, Kevin Stanton and wife, Patricia, Kelly Mason and husband, Harold, Carla Hipner and husband, Mike, Tami Pursifull and husband, Roger, fifteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 17, 2005 at Melrose United Methodist Church with Rev. John Abraham officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
