George W. Hall, 83, of Ft. Madison, Iowa, died at 5:07 PM Saturday, September 09, 2006, in Ft. Madison. Mr. Hall was born July 8, 1923, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of George and Ethel Hall Merrett. He was raised by his maternal grandparents. He married Helen Stoops in 1940 in Keokuk, Iowa. He married Marie Templeton on June 23, 1992 in Ft. Madison, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 27, 1992. He served in the United States Army as a Ranger during World War II. He was a prisoner of war for 14 months. Following the war in 1946, he was given the Key to the City of Keokuk. He had lived in various places including Arkansas and Des Moines, Iowa. He had worked as a logger, a carpenter, and in production and had been employed by Swifts and by Fruehauf in this area. He was a devoted Catholic and later became a member of the Church of New Beginnings. He is survived by a son, Donald E. Skinner and his wife, Judy, of Montrose, Iowa; six grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren for whom he had a special love.
