Robert Lyle Miller, 83, formerly of Keokuk, died early Monday morning, October 2, 2006 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. Mr. Miller was born January 31, 1923, in Mankato, Minnesota, the son of Lyle Bud and Erma Yates Miller. He married Margaret Ladean Elliott on August 15, 1956, in Keokuk, Iowa. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2001. He received a Bachelors Degree from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. He served in the United States Army, 754th Tank Battalion in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. He had lived in Keokuk from 1937 until 2001 when he moved to Peoria and then Quincy to be closer to his sons. He was employed by the Hubinger Company for 23 years as Traffic Manager. He later was the Curator for the George M. Verity Riverboat Museum in Keokuk for 20 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men. He was a member of (Eagle Lodge) Keokuk Lodge, A.F. & A.M.; Keokuk Kiwanis Club; Midwest Riverboat Buffs; Keokuk Parks and Recreation Board; Keokuk Camera Club; and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. s wife, Denise, of Peoria, Illinois and John R. Miller of Quincy, Illinois; two grandchildren, Gavin D. Miller of Peoria, Illinois and Angela F. Winston and her husband, Shaun, of Peoria, Illinois; and a great granddaughter, Michele Winston of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his father, Lyle B. Miller; and his mother, Erma Miller. Funeral services were held Friday, October 6, 2006, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk with Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiating. Burial with military rites followed to Keokuk National Cemetery. A public Masonic Memorial Service was at 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Midwest Riverboat Buffs or to River History Preservation.
