ELIZABETH REUSSWIG THE VILLAGES, Florida - Elizabeth 'Betty' J. Reusswig, 95, formerly of Muscatine, died on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Sumter Place in The Villages, Florida. Private Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lake Park Road in Tavares, Florida 32778, or to the Musser Public Library, 304 Iowa Avenue, Muscatine. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com Betty was born on September 7, 1922, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the daughter of Eugene and Agnes Boland Knothe. She married Frederick W. Reusswig on June 14, 1945, in Barstow, California. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2014. Their children include Michael, Patricia, David, and Catherine. Betty was a 1944 graduate of The University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was an active member of the Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority at UW. Chapter of AAUW, PEO Chapter MN, and Twentieth Century Club. She was also a member of the Muscatine Catholic Community, League of Women Voters, Muscatine Historic Society, and the Geneva Golf and Country Club. Many Meals on Wheels were delivered over the years by Betty. She also wrote the book "A Stroll through Old Muscatine: an annotated historic walking tour of historic residences of West Second and Third Streets" as well as presenting many slide show presentations. Among Betty's favorite activities were golf, bridge, and creating beautiful crafts with tole painting, ceramics, needlepoint, and counted cross stitch. She loved cooking and decorating their home. Betty's greatest joy was her family. Many a happy holiday, vacation, and other times were shared with family, and card games with the grandchildren were especially fun activities. During retirement, Betty and Fred spent 17 years living six months in Muscatine and the same in Sun City Center, Florida. While in Sun City Center, they were members of The Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Panhellenic Club, the SCC Golf and Racquet Club, and various Bridge groups. Those left to honor Betty's memory include her children, Michael and Cynthia Reusswig of The Villages, Florida, Patricia and John Nyweide of Cedar Ralls, David and Sara Reusswig of Muscatine, and Catherine Reusswig of Denver, Colorado; ten grandchildren, Amy and Scott Ortiz of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Katy and Scott Ward of Parker, Colorado, J Kendrick Reusswig of Des Moines, Meg Jarman of Cleveland, Tennessee, Christine Nyweide and Travis Bergen of Waterloo, Matthew Reusswig and Amber Welch of Centreville, Virginia, Philip Reusswig and Katie McDonald of Mountain View, California, Emily Reusswig and Patrick Whalen of Chicago, Illinois, Maggie Long and Robert E. Young III of Denver, Colorado, and Alissa Long of Denver, Colorado; as well as eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Eileen Knothe; and seven nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Eugene Knothe and wife, Patricia, formerly of Sedalia, Missouri, and John 'Jack' Knothe, formerly of La Crosse, Wisconsin; one sister, Marjorie, who died in infancy; and two nephews, James and Philip Knothe.
