Jane Norman Marion passed away on September 25, 2007 at River Hills Village in Keokuk. Funeral services were Friday, September 28, 2007 at the United Presbyterian Church of Keokuk where she was a lifetime member. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery. Jane was born in Keokuk on July 25, 1918, the daughter of Judge George Lloyd Norman and Helen Beers Norman. She graduated from Keokuk Senior High School in 1934. She attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois and graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. While attending Iowa, Jane was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and was elected to Mortar Board. After completing her education, Jane began teaching in Keokuk where she met and married John W. Marion on June 12, 1943. Shortly after they married, they moved to South Bend, Indiana, where her husband was employed by A. C. Neilson Company. In 1948, Mr. And Mrs. Marion returned to Keokuk where Jane became active in community service including the Keokuk Baby Welfare League, League of Women Voters, and Keokuk Little Theatre. mber of the YMCA board and was named "Layman of the Year" in 1965. She enjoyed playing tennis and golf throughout her life. She was also an avid gardener who prided herself in her colorful and unique arrangements for many occasions. Jane traveled widely throughout the world, and having visited Russia twice prior to the fall of communism, she found pleasure upon leaving piles of "Time" and "Life" magazines on benches were people in the throes of censorship avidly grabbed them up. Jane was a unique, vibrant, creative woman, who treasured her wide circle of friends, her community and her family. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John. Survivors include her brother, George L. Norman and his wife Barbara, of Keokuk, Iowa, three sons, John David Marion and his wife Darla, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Thomas D. Marion and his wife Debra, of Keokuk, Iowa and Benjamin N. Marion and his wife, Sherry Neff of Ely, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jennifer T. Marion and John F. Marion, both of Des Moines, Iowa. Also surviving are two nieces, Anne Thomas and Ellen Norman and one nephew, Mark Norman. Memorials may be made to Keokuk Art Center.
