It is with great sadness that the family of John Howard Holzer, 64, announce his passing. John passed away on Monday, November 20th, 2017 at his home in Garland, Texas surrounded by family.
John was born September 13, 1953 in Urbana, Illinois. John grew up in Decatur, IL, graduating from Macarthur H.S. in 1971 and attended Valparaiso University where he graduated in 1975 with a B.S. After graduating, John moved to Dallas and met his wife of 38 years, Tamela "Tammy" Jo Holzer, while both were working for Southland Corporation. While John and Tammy grew their family, John worked in sales for a variety of companies including A1 Homes, Firestone, Hi/LO Auto Supply (now O'Reilly Auto Parts), Sears Department Store, and Rusty Wallis Honda. John always had a love for trains and joined Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) in 2011 hoping to pursue a career as a Rail Operator. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Tammy, four children, Joanna, Christian (Kathryn), of Frisco, TX, Aaron (Lauren), of Greenwood, IN, and Brandon of Dickinson, ND, two brothers, Reverand William (Tina) of Brenham, TX, Christopher (Tammy) of Elmwood Park, IL, and sister, Cheryl Ooton-Krebs (Frank) of Morton, IL. John was a loving "PaPa" to Kammy Cox of Garland, TX, Nicole and Evan Holzer of Frisco, TX and Liam and Landon Holzer of Greenwood, IN.
John was preceded in death by his Parents, Howard and Joanne Holzer, his Paternal Grandparents, and his Maternal Grandparents.
The Family is asking that memorials be made in John's name to Tree of Life Lutheran Church, 6318 Lyons Rd., Garland, TX 75043. The Family would like to thank Pastor Clint Thorson of Tree of Life Lutheran Church and the women of Tree of Life Lutheran Church for providing meals and much needed support.
