Muncie - Troy Allen Whitaker, 48, Muncie, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, after a brief illness. Troy was born in Muncie, Indiana on Wednesday, June 18, 1969, to Paul and Shirley (Herbert) Whitaker. Troy attended Southside High School. Troy and Melissa met in 1994 and were married in 1997. Together they shared the joy of watching their son, Austin, grow into an adult. Troy loved participating in demolition derbies, and then watching his son Austin participate with great excitement. Troy loved all of his nieces and nephews, and all kids loved him. Troy was a big kid himself. Troy leaves behind his wife of twenty years Melissa; son, Austin; his step-mother, Frieda Whitaker; sister, Vicki Rhonemus (husband Randy); sister, Karen Rhonemus Cox; brother, Paul Whitaker (companion Tiffany); brother, Lonny Whitaker (wife Sandy); sister, Paula Whitaker; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Services to celebrate Troy's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 with Pastor Dale Trego officiating. Family and friends may call Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. The family will gather at The Harvest East Church, 2120 East 26th Street, Muncie, Indiana, following the services for anyone wanting to join them.
