Charles Lester Hooper

Williamsburg- Charles "Les" Hooper was born on April 26, 1937 in Marion County, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Helen (Metcalf) Hooper. He graduated from Carlisle High School in 1957 and the Iowa State Patrol Academy in 1966. Les was united in marriage to Nancy Sue Bunce on June 27, 1958 at the Christian Church in Carlisle. They lived in Carlisle after their marriage and moved to Williamsburg in 1966, when he was assigned by the Patrol. He served in the Army National Guard from 1955 to 1963 with the rank of Sgt E5 USAR. Les worked for the city of Carlisle Police Department for a couple of years before becoming an Iowa State Trooper for 23 years retiring as a Sr. Trooper. He also worked for the U.S. Marshal as a District Supervisor of Northern Iowa Court Security for the Federal Court system. He later worked for the Iowa County Transportation Services for 3 years. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Les passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at the age of 80 years. isle; a daughter-in-law: Brenda Hooper of North English; 5 grandchildren: Jennifer (Tom) Hartshorn, Nickolas (Megan) Menary, Zachery Hooper, Gabrielle Hooper and Ashley Hooper; a great granddaughter: Hayley Hartshorn and a brother: Dick Hooper of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, son William Jeffery Hooper and a sister Norma Pegram. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Memorials are for St. Paul United Methodist Church Youth Program.
