James Winkle

James H. Winkle, 63, of Keokuk, died at 3:00 PM Friday, March 14, 2008, at his home. Mr. Winkle was born July 18, 1944, in Tacoma, Washington, the son of James C. and Louise Pitt Winkle. He married Betty Washburn on October 18, 1991, in Bentonville, Arkansas. She survives. He served in the United States Army. He lived in Rogers, Arkansas, for 15 years and while there he worked driving a school bus, driving an armored car, and as a security guard. After moving to Keokuk, he worked driving for Checker cab and Yellow Cab for several years. He enjoyed fishing and watching Westerns and wresting on television. His favorite buddies were his dog, Butch, and his cat, Maxwell. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Keokuk; a son, William Winkle and his wife, Stacy, of Coatsburg, Illinois; two stepdaughters, Margaret Hudson and Tina Huston of Keokuk; three stepsons, Joseph Nelson and his wife, Kim, of Kingsport, Tennessee, Terry Nelson and his wife, Tamara, of Keokuk and Ricky Nelson of Keokuk; several grandchildren including James Nelson, who was raised from birth by James and Betty; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
