Carl Schmitt

Carl Warren Schmitt, 61, of Des Moines, formally of Keokuk, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Schmitt was born July 22, 1947 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Truman and Thelma Juanita Durham Schmitt. He married Velva Marlene Johnson Irvin. She survives. He lived in Burlington, Iowa, before moving to Des Moines, Iowa, six years ago. He worked as a nurse for Genesis Living Center in Des Moines. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Velva "Marlene" Schmitt of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Carol Vinson of Keokuk; a son, Jason Schmitt and his wife Caroline of Keokuk; three step children, Patsy Brewer and her husband, Rick, Merle Irvin and Darrell Irvin, all of Des Moines, Iowa; two brothers, Robert Clark and his wife, Virginia,of Warsaw, Illinois and Stephan"Tony" Schmitt and his wife, Judy, of Keokuk, two sisters, Peggy Zick-Hall and her husband, Larry Hall, of Keokuk and Francie Daniels and her husband, Roger, of Kahoka, Missouri; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. in March of 1970; one sister Patty Stark; and mother-in-law, Velva Johnson. Funeral services were Monday, March 2, 2009 at First Christian Church with Rev. William Mitchell officiating. Burial followed with military rites at Keokuk National Cemetery.
