Warren "Ike" Johnston

Warren G. "Ike" Johnston, 87, of Keokuk, died at 12:27 PM Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. Ike was born January 7, 1923 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Harold and Lola Morrisey Johnston. He married Iola Fern Johnson on April 24, 1944. She preceded him in death on October 10, 1995. He attended Keokuk High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and had been employed in production at Purity Oats and later at Thomas Truck & Caster. He was an avid bicycle rider and rode his bicycle everywhere. He never owned a car. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by a stepson, Harold George and his wife, Carol, of Bettendorf, Iowa; four grandchildren, Tom (Kim) George, Steve (Darla)George,Barbara (Edward) Bernauer, David George; thirteen great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara (Jun) Coovert of Keokuk; Mary Helen Symmonds of Keokuk; one brother, Don (Frances) Gilpin of Keokuk; sister-in-law, Audrey Gilpin of Keokuk; several nieces and nephews. Allen Johnston. Funeral services were held Friday, June 25, 2010, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Mikal Christopherson officiating. Burial and full Military Rites were in Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Great River Hospice of West Burlington, Iowa.
