Chuck Land

Charles R. "Chuck" Land, 79, of Keokuk, died at 6:30 PM Saturday, October 30, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa. Chuck was born June 19, 1931, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Veda Fickel Land. He married Violet Bode on August 15, 1956, in Peaksville, Missouri. She survives. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received the Purple Heart. He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and was employed as the manager of the Eagles Club for 38 years. He was a former member of the Eagles Club. He loved driving slowly and riding in a slow-going car. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle and his motorcycle. He was a NASCAR fan, especially of Bill Elliott. He really enjoyed walking and scratching off lottery tickets, but the love of his life was his Mercury Grand Marquis. Jenkins; one great grandchild, Dylan Butler; one brother, Melvin Land and his wife, Mary, of Montrose, Iowa; one sister, Deanne Miller of Keokuk; brothers-in-law, Ron Bode and wife, Sharon, Terry Bode and Butch Symmonds; sisters-in-law, Debbie Symmonds, Marilyn Land, Jean Land, Sharon Bode and Janet Bode; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Thomas, Bobby, and Edward Land.
