Donald "Gus" Cavanagh

Donald J. "Gus" Cavanagh, 91, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Thursday, December 21st, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 20th, 2018. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #430 or to the Humane Society of Scott County. Donald was born in 1926 in DeWitt, Iowa to Joseph and Margaret Cavanagh. He served with the U.S. Army during WW II and the Korean Conflict. On June 7, 1952 he married Marguerite Winckler in Davenport. She preceded him in death July 5, 1996. He worked in Central Dispatch of the former J. I. Case, Bettendorf. His memberships included American Legion Post #430, Durant AARP, and the Quad Cities Bicycle Club. Survivors include his daughters Diane (Jeff) Shoemaker of Davenport and Patricia (Russell) Whitworth of St. Louis; sons Michael (Karyen) Cavanagh of Davenport, Iowa and Gordon (Maura) Cavanagh of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren Michele (Travis) Gay, Steven Cavanagh, Chad Turnbull, Joshua (Megan) Cavanagh, Kevin (Jenna) Nicholson, Jacob Cavanagh, and Traci Cavanagh; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
