W. Von Tull, 78, of Afton, died Friday, December 22, 2017 at his home in Afton.
Celebration of Life Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Avenue in CRESTON. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs will officiate.
Burial will be at Moon Cemetery, south of Macksburg.
Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Powers Funeral Home in CRESTON.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Von's name for a later determination. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com.
Willard Von Tull, son of Clara Irene (Baker) Tull and Alvin Lee Tull, was born January 23, 1939 in Diagonal, Iowa. He graduated from Tingley High School in 1957. Von went on to work at Sample Hart, doing body and fender restoration in Omaha for many years. In 1976, he bought a farm north of Shannon City.
On May 18, 1981, Von married Judith K. McVay in Kellerton, Iowa. They first lived and worked near Shannon City. In 1983, they moved to Afton, where Von worked as the Afton Police Chief and continued farmin...[more]
Years later, he worked with the Union County Sheriff's Department, later serving as Chief Deputy. Von retired from the Sheriff's Department, and began working for the Afton Co-op, working in a range of areas. Von was still employed with Afton Co-op's successor, United Farmers at the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife Judi Tull of Afton; a daughter, Angela Knodel of Crescent City, Calif.; a son, Mitchell (wife Patty) Tull of Waukee; 3 step-sons, Randy (wife Deb) Hansen of Creston, Ivan Hansen of Cabot, Ark. and Gary (wife Jannette) Hansen of Afton; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard (wife Jennie) Tull of Tingley and Glen Tull of Creston; and a sister, Janet (husband Jim) Sissel of Creston.
Von was preceded in death by his parents, his father & mother-in-law, Forest and Velma McVay, a step-daughter, Tammy Steele, a brother, Ronald Tull, 3 sisters-in-law, 6 brothers-in-law and 2 nieces.
