James "Jimmy" E. Walsh, 92, of Ponca, NE passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at a Sioux City hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, NE with Father Andrew L. Sohm officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in rural Jackson, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with a Knights of Columbus Rosary and scriptural prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the church. Visitation with the family present will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE. Jimmy was born on July 20, 1925 in Willis, NE, the son of Joseph and Mary (Casey) Walsh. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. John's Catholic Church at Willis, NE. He attended school through the 8th grade at the Curran School in rural Willis. He then started farming with his father. Jimmy farmed for 45 years beginning with horses, and he picked corn by hand. 2. Jimmy was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca and he ushered for many years. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Nazareen Co. #9939 Knights of Columbus, and 1st degree Initiation Team. He enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, mowing and taking care of his lawn. He also liked to play cards and spend time with the "old guys" at the coffee shop. Survivors include 2 sisters, Bonnie (Paul) Bird of Owatonna, MN and Kay (Bob) Schwiesow of Bellevue, WA; sister-in-law, GlennaLee Walsh of Anthon, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Walsh; 2 brothers, Joseph and John Walsh; sister-in-law, Carmelita Walsh; nephew, Tony Walsh; and niece, Mary Walsh.
