Donald William Stevens

Donald William Stevens, 77 of Nevada died on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.  Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30 at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor David R. Burling officiating.  Burial of Don and Verla's cremains will follow in the Maxwell Cemetery. Don was born on November 2, 1930 in Ames to William and Ethel (Kelly) Stevens.  He married Verla Jean Breer on June 24, 1950 in rural Cambridge.  Don was a building engineer for George White Chevrolet and after his retirement he was employed at the D.O.T.  He enjoyed buying cars, working and bowling. Don is survived by 2 sons, Darrell Stevens of Ames and Bill Stevens of Runnells; 2 daughters, Carol Bappe of Colo and Bev Fiscel of Altoona; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Skare of Story City. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Verla on November 24, 2004, 2 grandchildren, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.
