High Falls - Joseph Vincent LaFera, 81, of High Falls and Seaville, NJ left this earth on Tuesday January 2, 2018 at home surrounded by his family after a short illness.
Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a graduate of LaSalle Academy in New York City and attended Manhattan College.
He moved to Rosendale in 1954 and was employed at IBM Kingston for 35 years. He worked in the printing area where he later became manager. He also worked as cafeteria manager and in building and maintenance before his retirement in 1990.
He served on the Rosendale Village Board as Trustee, a member of St. Peter's Parish Council & the Rosendale Fire Company. He moved to High Falls in 1969 and served as Marbletown Democratic Chairman. While chairman he was active in the successful campaign of Congressmen Matt McHugh and Assemblyman Maurice Hinchey.
After his retirement he spent his winters in Puerto Rico and summers at his home in Seaville, NJ, making friends wherever he went. He loved the beach, riding the back bays in his blue boat, crabbing and fishing. Family was important to Jo...[more]
nd he loved to cook his famous pasta and meatballs for them & mix up a batch of cosmos.
Joe's smile would light up a room and he always made you feel welcome whether you stayed for an hour or a month.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Marguerite (Hall), a daughter Jill Marie of Rosendale, a son Joseph Vincent of High Falls and beloved granddog Jersey, his brothers A. Donald (Elizabeth) of Rosendale, Robert of Rhinebeck, Leonard (MaryAnn) of Marietta, GA, Vincent (Sharon) of Olivebridge, a sister Lydia LaFera Baluch of Harrisburg, NC.
Also survived by his sister-in-law's Nancy (Walter) Nelson of Mays Landing, NJ, Dorothy (Webster) Sherman of Rockford, TN, Linda Hall of Butner, NC, Cynthia (Carmine) Cozza of Kingston, Susan (Kent) Clifton of Washington, IL, along with 29 nieces & nephews, 36 great nieces & nephews & 5 great great nieces & nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Monday January 8 at St. Peters Church in Rosendale. Rev. Edmund Burke will officiate. Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Rosendale. Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday 1 to 5 PM at the George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., 2053 Route 32, Rosendale.
