Richard John Curtis, 73, of Severna Park, Maryland passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Waugh Chapel Center in Gambrills, Maryland. He was born November 24, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York to the late John Curtis and Anne (Moore) Denzler. He graduated from John Jay High School in June 1963. Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Department of the Navy during the Vietnam War. He served as a Lead Aviation Electronics Technician of a deploying detachment responsible for the operation and electronic maintenance of remote control aircraft, land vehicles and boats. A recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, he was honorably discharged in October 1969. He then worked for International Business Machines (IBM) in Kingston and Poughkeepsie, NY. While at IBM, he graduated from Marywood College in August 1984 receiving a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Administration. In October 1994, he began working for the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. From May 1999 until his retirement in December 2012, he worked as an IT Auditor for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. s a member of American Legion Post #150. In his free time, he enjoyed photography, listening to and playing music. Richard could play the accordion, electric organ and drums. He was also an electric train hobbyist, car enthusiast, Brooklyn Dodgers and Army Navy Game fan. Richard, beloved husband of 39 years, is survived by his wife, Karen and their son John F. Curtis of Severna Park, Maryland, as well as several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, George Denzler, Eileen Boyle and Dorothy Denzler. Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY, the family wishes to receive friends and fellow family members to honor Richard's memory on Tuesday, January 9th from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 10th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Montrepose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
