Gerald Arthur Mason

Gerald A. Mason, 97, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Memorial services will be held Friday, April 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel. Anderson Funeral Home of Marshalltown has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com. Gerald Arthur Mason, son of Arthur and Florence (Grey) Mason was born September 7, 1917 at Carnarvon, Iowa. He graduated from Wall Lake High School and then attended barber school. Gerald served his country in World War II in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945. He earned the Bronze Star for Valor for his time serving in the Philippines. When he returned home from the service he married Pat Quinn in 1946, she died on January 23, 1982. He lived and worked as a barber in Fort Dodge until he quit in 1968. After that Gerald worked as a real estate and sold new homes until retiring in 1982. Elks Club in Fort Dodge and the American Legion Post 195 in Sac City. Survivors include: his wife, Velma of Marshalltown, IA; step-sons, Jim (Phyllis) Huen of Kimberling City, MO, Jack (Becky) Huen of Liscomb, IA; step-daughters, Jeanette (Darrell) Axness of Badger, IA and Judy Miller of Waterloo, IA; 16 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, step son-in-law, Don and granddaughter, Emily.
