George Goos

George Goos, 83, of Gladbrook, IA, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2017, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2017, also at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. George was born February 21, 1934, to Gustave Gus and Georgiana (Witt) Goos in rural Gladbrook. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1951. George served in the U.S Army during the Korean War and played on the Army football team at his base. He was united in marriage to Patricia Helland on August 24, 1957, in Marshalltown, IA. George attended Iowa State University where he also played football. Early in life, he farmed in rural Gladbrook, but is mostly known for his business, Goos Electric, which he operated until retirement in 2015. He had also been a member of the Commercial Club, Jaycees, and volunteered at the fairgrounds for 4H. George was a jack of all trades and an avid Iowa State fan. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, flying, boating, water-skiing, and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren. George will be missed by his wife, Patricia, of Gladbrook; three children, David (Jayne) Goos of Newton, IA, Chris (Roger) Burtraw of Fairfield, CT, and Lane (Tonya) Goos of Johnston, IA; six grandchildren, Bryan (Anna) Goos, Stephanie Goos, Lee (Amanda) Burtraw, Erik Burtraw, Ali Burtraw, and Kate Goos; and a sister, Alice Conder of Thornton, CO. He is preceded in death by his seven brothers, Evan, Fred, Irwin, Willys, Roger, Vernon, and Clair.
