Lyla Fern Williams, 84, of Fairfax, died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown. A private family service will be held at Teahen Funeral Home. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Lyla is survived by her husband, Ray; daughter, Deborah (Dan) Patterson of Cedar Rapids; son, Scott (Teresa) Williams of New Bloomfield, MO; four grandchildren; Cory and Cassandra Patterson, Stephanie (Chris) Hoeman, and Austin Williams.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Daryl, Dwight, and Wendall Mick; and an infant sister.
Lyla was born on April 5, 1933 in Pella, the daughter of Lyle and Ethel Wilson Mick. She married Ray Williams on July 31, 1953 at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. She proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1954.
Lyla was a member of the Fairfax American Legion, and spent many years as a Candy Striper at St. Luke's Hospital. She enjoyed working with ceramics and spending winters in Texas after her retirement. Her grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy.
