ushing, Queens, NY in 1964. She was one of the first two African- American women to be employed at Chase Manhattan in Rockefeller Plaza during the Civil Rights Movement in the 60's. She endured overwhelming challenges and was devastated by the death of Martin Luther King, as were so many others. She taught her children and grandchildren to stand up for what they believe and to believe they can be anything they want to be with a good education and the support of family.
She retired from New York Telephone Company in October of 1991, where she enjoyed connecting people to the ones they loved or the number they needed to get help. That was Rosetta! On her lunch or breaks she connected many friends and family members to one another, and it brought her so much joy. Rosetta was dedicated to her walk with the Lord and her family. She also taught her family and friends the art of fine dining.
She moved from NY to reside with her daughter in Longmont, Colorado in 2004. She moved to Cinnamon Park Assisted Living Center in 2005, where she lived for nearly 9 years. She would often say, "I used to have a house, now I have a peaceful park." She loved it there. She then moved to Heritage Square at Good-Samaritan Society, Loveland Village and really lived so contentedly until the last of her days. She was always a stunning lady who had such a happy outlook on life, despite enduring a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She loved music. She taught the Pathways Hospice and Good-Samaritan staff some pretty cool moves as she smiled with her dancing eyebrows and shoulders! One of her favorite sayings was, "I'm happy and content...living the life of Riley" (in reference to "The Life of Riley" TV show).
She lived a life of courage and was an encourager to all she met on life's journey. Many friends, caregivers and family members remark that Rosette had a way of lifting them up and helping them to see the brighter side of life. She endured to the end fighting the good fight. She may have had Alzheimer's, but Alzheimer's never had her!
Rosetta is preceded in death by her parents, Acie & Nicie (Pittman) Silver, beloved sister, Doris Davis, & grandson Andre. Left to mourn are her 3 children, Lauren of CO, Samuel Richard of Bronx, NY, Steven of Long Island, NY, brother, Charles Cornelius Jones, step-sister Betty Dorsey, daughters- in-law, Joyce Henderson and Margaret Henderson, eight grandchildren, Ife Morgan, Samuel Henderson Jr., David A. Humdy, Michael Henderson, Steven Christopher Henderson, Jasmin Nicole Henderson, Jonathan Henderson, 10 great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers who served her so graciously with dignity and a boat load of love! We will always remember your sacrifice for her well-being. Thanks also to everyone who reached out to the family, prayed and served us personally, far too many to list, but you were like Jesus with skin on and we are greatly indebted to you all. Rest assured that Rosetta is dancing in heaven, reunited with loved ones, happy, whole and healed! Thank you, Lord Jesus!
