Mary "Maxine" Humphreys, 99, of Burlington, died at 3:38 AM Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the New London Specialty Care.
Born September 1, 1918, in Ottumwa, IA, she was the daughter of Joseph and Helen Brown Emerson. On April 2, 1935, she married Jey G. Schafer in Fairfield, IA. He died January 17, 1958. On February 8, 1974, she married Calvin E. Humphreys in Washington, IA. He died November 25, 1988.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Creston, IA, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #494 of Wayland, IA, charter member of ABWA of Washington, IA.
She was employed as a production and cost clerk at McCleery-Cumming for 12 years, and did bookkeeping at Conagra Mill in Washington for 4 years before retiring in April of 1974.
She especially enjoyed interior decorating and landscaping. She was an avid reader.

Besides both of her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, two sisters, and two brothers.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
There will be no visitation or services.
