Wanda A. Sellers
Wanda Arlene Cross Sellers passed away on January 4, 2018, after a long illness. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Rev. Jim Zacharias officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Following services, Wanda's wishes were to be cremated. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, at a later date. Wanda was born April 3, 1927, to Gene and Ada May Cross. After completing the required curriculum for school, she attended the University of Northern Iowa until World War II was over. She married Leland Clark Sellers on March 16, 1946, and together they had five children: LeJuana Jayne, Lorna Denise, Wendy Lee, Shelby Jean, and Tracy David. They lived in Urbana before moving to Vinton in 1957. She was a lifelong quilter, amassing a large collection of both quilting reference books and material, and always delighted in gaining more of each. She also used these collections frequently, making quilts for her children, grandchildren and those less fortunate. eir Mission Stitchers charity. She was lucky enough to be afforded a chance to have a five-generation picture taken recently, as well as a four-generation picture with another grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; Leland, her husband of 50 years; and two daughters, LeJuana "Janie" Sellers and Lorna Kersey. She is survived by two daughters: Shelby (Walt) Roth of Marion; and Wendy Pennington of Vinton; one son, Tracy Sellers of Vinton; grandchildren: Andy Sellers of Jupiter, FL; Sadja (Brian) Sondag of Urbana; Dawn Lefever of Sumter, SC; Travis McGlothlin of Vinton; Ada Arlene Pennington of Vinton; Jillian (Mark) Jones of Vinton; Courtney Roth of Marion; Christina Sellers of Fort Myers, FL; and Darin Sellers of Indianapolis, IN; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Never one to dress formally, she made her wishes clear to have a "casual" dress code for her funeral. A memorial fund has been established.
