Mary Ellen Buczkowski, age 83, of Cathedral Village, Philadelphia, formerly of Oreland, PA, died on Monday, January 22, 2018. She was born on Oct. 4, 1934, in Portage, PA, to the late J. Edward and Ann (Nee Conrad) Farren. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dwight E. Buczkowski in 1988 and by her son Michael Buczkowski in 1998. She is survived by a brother, James H. Farren, Scottsdale, Arizona, and her beloved children Anne Buczkowski and her husband W. Kent Silvers, Jr, of Bryn Mawr, David Buczkowski and his wife Marie of Lansdale, and Mary Buczkowski and her husband Thomas McMillan of Colorado Springs, Colorado; along with 6 grandchildren. Mary Ellen graduated from Villanova University School of Nursing, in 1959, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and from Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1955. Following graduation, she worked as a nursing instructor at Camille's School of Practical Nursing, Darby, PA, and for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health as a Public Health Field Nurse helping new mothers and their children. at Chestnut Hill Hospital and North Penn Visiting Nurses Association on weekends. In addition, she became active in the Upper Dublin Citizens Legislative Committee, elected Corresponding Secretary in 1975 and President in 1979. In 1979, she was elected to the Board of School Directors in Upper Dublin Township School District, and from 1979 to 1985 she served as the Board Vice President for 3 years and Chairman of Personnel Committee for 3 years. During which time she began working as a Psychiatric Nurse and Charge Nurse for several inpatient psychiatric hospitals in the Montgomery County Area, and did so up until she retired in 2005. Mrs. Buczkowski was a member of the Holy Martyrs Catholic Church where she helped with Aid for Friends along with various other community outreach education and support programs. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the Jersey shore in Ocean City and Stone Harbor, NJ, as well as, attending the Philadelphia Orchestra. Mary Ellen is remembered as always being on the move, upbeat and full of energy, and as a compassionate person who dedicated much of her life to serving the church and others. Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday, January 29, 2018 from 9:15 to 10:00 AM at St. Anthony's of Padua Church, 259 Forest Ave. Ambler. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Stephen H.
