John J.C. Charles Swan

John Charles "J.C." Swan, 79, of Keokuk, IA, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at his home. John was born on October 1, 1938, in Keokuk, to Carl and Helen Kelley Swan. He was united in marriage to Janet Richardson on June 1, 1962 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2015. John graduated from Keokuk Senior High School and received a bachelor's degree from Parsons College, in Fairfield, IA. He also served as a member of the National Guard. He went on to own McFarland-Swan Supply of Keokuk for 50 years. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk, where he served as an Elder. He was also a member of Keokuk Lodge #29 AF & AM, KABBA Shrine, the Southside Boat Club, the Keokuk Yacht Club, Keokuk Jaycees, and the Keokuk Elks BPOE #106, to which he was a past Exulted Ruler. He also served on the County Civil Service Board. John was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and also enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events. vived by: his three children, Steve Swan, Greg (Amanda) Swan, and Jana (Fred) Hausch, all of Keokuk; seven grandchildren, James (Nicole) Swan, Beckah Swan, Alan Swan, Emily Fuller, Rachel Hausch, Ragen Hausch, and Carl Hausch; one great-grandson, Colten; his sister, Sandra Sisk; and his sister-in-law, Elsie Richardson. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at the United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk, with Pastor Alice Hawes officiating. There will be a private family burial. Memorial in his memory may be made to the United Presbyterian Church, or the Lake Cooper Foundation's Street Fair Fund.
