Burt, Gregory W.

Gregory Ward Burt, 70, of Des Moines, IA passed away peacefully January 29, 2018, at his winter home in La Quinta, CA, with his loving wife and son at his side. Greg was the most incredible husband, father, and brother, and was devoted to his entire family and many friends. Greg was born May 23, 1947, in Des Moines, IA, the son of Berry O. and Elizabeth P. Burt. Growing up, he attended Waukee Community Schools. Greg was a Phi Delta Theta at the University of Iowa, where he graduated and became a loyal Hawkeye supporter. His early career was in the finance industry and 30 years ago he established the very successful Burt Commercial Finance. Greg also enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, golf with his best friend Bill Bailey at Des Moines Golf and Country Club, and was a voracious reader. He was known for his wonderful dry wit, blunt truthfulness, unquestionable integrity, and generous philanthropy. Next year, the Gregory and Suzie Glazer Burt Boys and Girls Club, a new facility on the campus of Drake University, will open in honor of his parents who were Drake alumni.
