Following high school, she attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in social work. Helen was married to Ron Blume, with whom she had two children, Matthew and Amy. In 1992, Helen was united in marriage to Jerry Lee Crandall, adding two daughters, Angie and Cindy. They made their home in Coin, Iowa, before moving to Shenandoah in 2016. For forty years, Helen worked for the State of Iowa (DHS) as a social worker covering most of southwest Iowa. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and especially quilting, the beauty of flowers, baking and cooking for family and all the special family celebrations. She also enjoyed spending time with all the grandchildren and attending their activities. Preceding Helen in death were her parents and grandparents; left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Jerry Crandall of Shenandoah; children, Matthew Blume of Norfolk, NE, Amy Entrekin and husband Aaron of Ankeny, IA, Angie Zach and husband Mark of Wayne, NE, and Cindy Hancock of Highlands Ranch, CO; seven grandchildren, Kylie Blume, Eric, Ava and Evan Entrekin, Ty and Cole Zach and Jace Hancock; brother, Charles Ankrom and wife Carol; sisters, Betty Jackson and husband Gary and Joyce Ankrom; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
