Ray Henry Sewick

Ray Henry Sewick was born July 20, 1930 in Maquoketa son of Ferm and Edith (Crouch) Sewick. He grew up in Burt with his family moving to Algona at an early age. He then worked on a farm and did construction work before serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. Ray was united in marriage to Emmaline May Gade on November 14, 1954 in West Bend. He worked for his father in the construction business and then did various other jobs. In 1968, he went into partnership with Adolph Oakland in Algona Plumbing & Heating. Ray sold the business to his son Scott in 1987 continuing to work there till 1992. Ray also operated R.H.S. Properties from his home. Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and golfing. He was an avid sports fan following the Minnesota Vikings, Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved being with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ray H. Sewick died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Good Samaritan Society, Algona at the age of 80. He is also survived by his siblings, Howard (Peggy) Sewick of Leon, Max (Lorraine) Sewick of Rockford, IL, Joan (John) Lenertz of Ruthven, and Duwayne (Kathryn) Klein of Algona; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-sister, Marge Reding; and three step-brothers, Dallas, Vernon, and Jerry Klein.
