Shirley Ann Pitsor

Shirley Ann (Rowe) Pitsor, 83, died peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City. Shirley was born July 5, 1934, on a farm near Alexander, the daughter of Lewis and Helen (Oltmann) Rowe. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1952, where she played the french horn and was the 1951 homecoming queen. Shirley then attended classes at Iowa State University. She worked in bookkeeping at First National Bank in Hampton. Shirley married Joe Allen Pitsor on January 17, 1956, at the First Congregational Church in Hampton. They made their home on a farm near Hampton. In 1967, they moved to Ames for 2 years and then to Ft. Dodge before returning to Hampton in 1970. Shirley was secretary-treasurer of the Pitsor Farm Management Company, co-founded by her husband, Joe, in 1970. Shirley was active in community affairs. She volunteered at the Franklin County Historical Society, donated items to the collection, and assisted in curating numerous exhibits. volunteer work also included Hampton Main Street. As a mother, she was involved with and supported her children's many activities. Shirley enjoyed gardening, antique collecting, traveling, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her husband Joe; her children, Tana (Bob) Meadows of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Deon (Kathy) Pitsor of Johnston, Iowa, and Kyle Pitsor of Washington, DC; and three grandchildren, Joe Pitsor of Chicago, Illinois, Jack Pitsor of Omaha, Nebraska, and Andrew Meadows of Ft. Collins, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents and aunt Ann Oltmann. Memorials may be directed to the Franklin County Historical Society, 1008 Central Ave W, Hampton, Iowa 50441.
