Donald Ludwig

Donald "Donnie" Edward Ludwig was born September 27, 1934 in rural West Bend to Leo and Mary (Kober) Ludwig. He was the eighth of thirteen children. Donnie grew up on a farm West of West Bend. He attended West Bend School. Donnie enjoyed working, hunting, and playing poker with his brothers. He worked various jobs before enlisting in the United States Army. Following his service time he took employment at Snap-On Tools where he worked for over 40 Years. Donnie was united in marriage on July 10, 1960 to Judith F. Baas in Whittemore. If they weren't working Donnie and Judy were traveling. They both loved to travel and never visited the same place twice. They would go anywhere new and different. They attended many Country Music concerts at the KRNT Theater in Des Moines. Donnie loved being around people and helping others. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching sports especially the Minnesota Twins Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State, and UNI. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Blackhats Gentlemen, and Happy Wanderers. Donnie died Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at the Humboldt Care Center North. He was 83. Sister-in-law, Diane (Terry) Carpenter of Council Bluffs; and brother-in-law, Floyd (Betty) Baas of Whittemore. He touched a lot of lives, but most importantly the lives of his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Frank, Leo Jr., Carl, Merle, John, MaDeen, Joe and Wayne; and sisters, Katherine Layton, Phyllis Wallace and Delores Ulrich.
