Margaret Ann Payne (McKinney) passed away to heaven March 15, 2018. Ann as she was known was born on April 13, 1929 to William Haney McKinney and Margaret Latz McKinney in New Haven, Connecticut. Ann was the valedictorian of her senior high school class in Atlantic City, Maryland, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from Indiana University and Master's degree in Education from Butler University. Ann was a life-long educator. She loved to teach and see young minds grow. While she taught several different grades, her love was the fourth grade. She began her teaching career in Indianapolis Public Schools, and then transferred to MSD of Warren Township where she taught fourth grade and became an elementary school dean. After retirement she continued to work for 10 years as a substitute teacher, special education aide, and lastly a bus aide for special education students. f, William Andrew and Katie Payne, Aaron McKinney Laidroo, Brayden Henn and Nicole Soto Massa Laidroo, and 2 Great Grandchildren: Keira Louise Miller and Maisie June Berghoff. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and sister Julia McKinney Kovalow. Happy to the end, she will ever be remembered, missed and loved by her family, students, and all those that knew her for her generosity, "Professional Billboard Sign Reading", jokes, stories and lively conversation. A graveside and headstone life celebration and remembrance will be held at the Crown Hill Cemetery Payne family plot June 30, 201811:00 AM, followed by a Family and Friends Reunion at1:00 PM at Bill and Judy Payne's home at 4939 Tudor Place Carmel, IN, 46033. Lunch will be served, and we look forward to continuing to share our memories of how Ann's life made our lives so much better.
