Mildred Schelle, 94 of Breda, died Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Mark Stoll. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling, the St. Bernard's Choir, with Nathan Schelle as soloist. Lectors will be Nina Grasse, Jenna Peterson, and Kara Kidney. Gift Bearers will be Billy Paul and Michelle Felder. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Mildred's Great-Grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be Tonya Erickson, Tony Schelle, Tina Watts, Mera Lonsdorf, Nicholas Schelle, Nathan Schelle, and Noah Schelle. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of the America's and the Breda American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.

Mrs. Schelle was born on June 8, 1923 at Carroll, Iowa, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Elizabeth (Wiedemeier) Baumhover. She grew up in Carroll, and graduated from St. Angela's Academy in Carroll. After her formal education Mildred worked at Woolworth's in Carroll.

On July 3, 1945, Mildred was united in marriage to Merlin Schelle at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. After their marriage the couple farmed near Manson, then north of Halbur, and later west of Breda, before moving into Breda in 1978. They owned and operated the Breda Hardware Store for many years. Mildred was also a devoted homemaker, and will be remembered as a seamstress who made beautiful garments for her family, and anyone who called upon her. She enjoyed maintaining her plentiful garden, square-dancing, polka dancing, and singing in the St. Bernard's Choir. Mildred was a member of the Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Breda American Legion Auxiliary, St. Bernard's Parish, and Ladies Guild.

Left to celebrate Mildred's life are her children: Kathy Funk of Trinity, NC, Barb (Kyle) Kidney Pardeeville, WI, Linda (Dennis) Johnston of Carroll, Charlie (Karen) Schelle of Ft. Dodge, and Mike (Bonnie) Schelle of Boone; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; her siblings: Kenneth (Katie) Baumhover of Maple River, and Mary Feldmann of Carroll; her sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law: Joyce Baumhover of Carroll, Dean Polking of Ft. Dodge, Lois Roets of Des Moines, Ronald (Pat) Schelle of Pfafftown, NC, Mary Schelle of Cedar Falls, Rosella Schelle of Carroll, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merlin in 2009, her siblings: Vince (Bonnie) Baumhover, Helen (Patrick) Shannon, Dorothy (Lawrence) Wegman, Larry Baumhover, and Lois Polking; her brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law: Bob Feldmann, Wayne Schelle, Wilmer (Marita) Schelle, Jean (Lenus) Thelen, Norma (Fred) Kennebeck, Nyle Schelle, and Phil Roets.
