Robert M. Mathews, 95, of Waterloo, died Thursday, April 5, 2018 at UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital. He was born September 18, 1922 in Mount Vernon the son of Bret & Hazel Mathews. He was graduate of Tipton High School.
Robert married Roseann Abeel Mathews May 6, 1950 in Austin, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on January 26, 2008.
Robert honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the European Theater with the 101st Airborne earning 4 bronze stars during his service. He also worked for John Deere for 31 years.
He was a member of New Beginnings Wesleyan Church in Waterloo and American Legion Post #138.
Survived: by two sons, David (Sharon) Mathews of Englewood, Colorado and Bret (Tamara) Mathews of Hiawatha, IA; a sister Elaine Hoy of Mechanicsville, IA; three grandchildren, Jonathan (Aurora) Mathews of New Braunfels, TX , Jeffrey (Elissa) Mathews of Waterloo, and Christianne (Jonathan) Wood of Denver, CO, and eight great grandchildren, Zach, Kyler, Ryley, Madison, Andrea, Bret, Sean, and Savanna.
Preceded in death by: his wife Roseann, a sister Mary, and a brother Thomas.
